This wedding was both.
When Stephanie and Nathan decided to leave Washington State behind and get married in Greece, they weren’t just planning a wedding day—they were creating an experience. One that would bring together their closest family and friends on a small island in the middle of the Aegean Sea for a week filled with celebration, connection, and unforgettable memories.

Maybe it was because I’d known Stephanie and Nathan long before their wedding day.

Traveling from Washington State to Ios, Greece

Most guests arrive by flying into either Santorini or Athens before taking a ferry to Ios. While the journey may take a little extra planning, it’s worth every second.
As the ferry approaches the island, whitewashed buildings begin appearing along the hillside while endless shades of blue stretch across the horizon.
As an Ios Greece wedding photographer, one of my favorite parts of documenting destination weddings is seeing guests experience a place like this for the first time. The island itself becomes part of the story, creating memories that extend far beyond the wedding day.

The celebrations began with a welcome dinner overlooking the water.
As guests gathered around long tables, conversations flowed easily. Stories were shared, glasses were raised, and laughter carried across the sea breeze as the sun slowly disappeared beyond the horizon.
It felt less like a formal wedding event and more like a family reunion in one of the most beautiful places imaginable.
One of my favorite parts of destination weddings is watching people settle into the experience.
The timelines disappear.
The stress fades.
Everyone starts focusing on what really matters: being present with the people they love.
As the evening continued, I pulled Stephanie and Nathan aside for a few portraits along the coastline.
The light was soft, the ocean stretched endlessly behind them, and for a few quiet moments, it felt like they finally had the chance to pause and take it all in.
After months of planning, they had made it to Greece.
And their wedding day was finally here.

The next day brought sunshine, ocean views, and one of the hottest afternoons of the entire trip.
Nestled above the Aegean Sea, Club Ios provided the perfect setting for a destination wedding in Greece. The panoramic views seemed endless, with white buildings, sparkling water, and rugged cliffs creating a backdrop that felt almost unreal.
Guests arrived dressed in soft summer colors while excitement filled the air.
The ceremony itself was deeply personal.
One of the most meaningful parts of the day was having Nathan’s father officiate the ceremony. His words reflected not only their relationship but the incredible support system surrounding them.
There were tears.
There was laughter.
There were moments where people smiled through tears because they understood exactly how significant this day was.
The setting was beautiful, but the emotions were what made the ceremony unforgettable.
Sunset Portraits in Ios, Greece

As the evening unfolded, we slipped away for portraits overlooking the sea.
The sky slowly transformed into shades of pink, orange, and gold while the Aegean reflected every color back toward the island.

Yet despite the incredible scenery, my favorite images from the evening weren’t necessarily the epic landscape portraits.

The quiet smiles.
The way they reached for each other’s hands.
The little glances that happen when nobody thinks they’re being photographed.
Those are the moments that tell the story.
More Than Just a Wedding Day
The celebration continued long after the sun disappeared.
Heartfelt speeches.
A champagne tower.
Dancing beneath the stars.
Friends and family celebrating together on a small island thousands of miles from home.
And honestly, that’s what I remember most.
Not the venue.
Not the views.
Not even the incredible sunset.
I remember the people.
From the moment I arrived in Greece, Stephanie and Nathan never made me feel like a vendor they had brought overseas to photograph their wedding.
They made me feel like part of the experience.
Like family.
Later, Stephanie left a review that included a line I’ll probably carry with me for the rest of my career:
“Larissa felt more like a friend than a photographer.”
Out of everything she wrote, that’s the line that stayed with me.
Because that’s exactly how this wedding felt.
