5 Best Wedding Venues in Positano for Your Amalfi Coast Elopement

Are you searching for wedding venues in Positano to plan your Amalfi Coast elopement? Positano offers some of the most breathtaking wedding venues on The Amalfi Coast with views for days. I’ve listed 5 of the top wedding venues below, along with the legal requirements for getting married in Italy. Keep reading for more.

Obtaining a Marriage License for Amalfi Coast Elopement

If you want your Amalfi Coast elopement to be legally binding, as opposed to a symbolic ceremony, Obtaining a marriage certificate in Italy comes with some legwork. You’ll need to bring along two witnesses and make a declaration of your intention to marry. In addition to this process, you must both present the following documentation:

  • A valid US passport
  • A certified copy of your birth certificate in “long form”
  • All attendees/witnesses must have a valid ID for identification (a passport or driver’s license)
  • A declaration, sworn to by US citizens who intend to marry in Italy before an American Consular officer in Italy, stating that according to the United States laws, there is no obstacle to the marriage
  • After the declaration, bans must be posted at the local City Hall for eight consecutive days and four more days are necessary before your marriage can occur. However, bans are typically waived by the Vital Statistic Registrar (“Ufficiale dello Stato Civile”) if neither party to the marriage is Italian nor residing in Italy.

It is also highly recommended that before you leave Italy, you request a copy of your marriage certificate from City Hall and have it legalized with an Apostille at the local Prefecture. As you can see, this is a lengthy, detailed process. Most couples who plan an elopement on the Amalfi Coast are in it for the adventure and fun experience.

So it’s hard to imagine spending time during your once-in-a-lifetime elopement making declarations at City Hall. The good news is that you can have a symbolic wedding ceremony instead! But, when you return back home to the States, you will need to file for a marriage license at your local city hall.

1) Villa San Giacomo

Villa San Giacomo is a Positano wedding venue with one of the most epic views. At Villa San Giacomo, they hold wedding ceremonies on the terrace facing the Mediterranean Sea! It’s stunning and idyllic, and it has that whole hitch-a-ride in a Vespa or a Fiat kind of vibe. If you want to make your Amalfi Coast elopement all-inclusive, your wedding at Villa San Giacomo will include a stay in one of their 18th-century suites.

2) Villa Oliviero

At Villa Oliviero, you find their professional “pizzaiolos”. Chefs that hand toss pizza for you – just in case you need a post-wedding snack! Wedding ceremonies at Villa Oliviero also take place on a terrace, with sprawling views in the distance.
