If you’re searching for the best Seattle engagement photo locations, you’re definitely not short on options. From beaches overlooking Puget Sound and wide-open fields to lush gardens and downtown streets, Seattle has a little bit of everything for engagement photos.
You can spend your evening barefoot on the beach, wander through tall grass, explore quiet forest trails, or head downtown for something a little moodier and more editorial. You don’t have to drive hours outside of the city to find a location that actually feels like the Pacific Northwest.
And your engagement photos don’t have to feel like an hour of standing in front of the camera trying to figure out what to do with your hands.
Choose somewhere that feels like a place you’d actually want to spend an evening together. Grab coffee. Bring your dog. Walk along the water. Get a drink downtown. Make a date out of it.
If you’re trying to decide where to take engagement photos in Seattle, here are eight of my favorite locations and what makes each one different.
1. Discovery Park
Discovery Park is easily one of my favorite Seattle engagement photo locations because there is so much variety in one place.
You have wide-open fields and tall grass, forest trails, bluffs overlooking Puget Sound, beach access and the West Point Lighthouse. We can get several completely different looks without spending half of your engagement session driving from one location to another.
It’s especially beautiful around golden hour when the grass catches the light and everything starts to feel a little warmer and softer.
If you want engagement photos that feel outdoorsy and unmistakably Pacific Northwest without actually leaving Seattle, this is one of my first recommendations.
Best for: Adventurous, laid-back, outdoorsy couples
Vibe: Coastal, wild, romantic, quintessential PNW
Best time: Golden hour through sunset
Looks like: Fields, forest, beach, cliffs, lighthouse + Puget Sound
2. Pioneer Square
For couples who want something completely different from the typical field-and-mountain engagement photos, head into the city.
Pioneer Square is one of my favorite areas for a session with a more editorial, urban feel.
Think brick buildings, old architecture, crosswalks, little side streets and movement through the city rather than staying in one exact spot and posing for an hour.
This is also somewhere we can turn your engagement photos into more of a date night. Wander around the neighborhood, stop somewhere for coffee or a drink, and let the session unfold from there.
Dress it up a little and it can feel straight out of a magazine.
Best for: Couples wanting something less traditional
Vibe: Editorial, romantic, moody, urban
Best time: Late afternoon into blue hour
Looks like: Historic buildings, brick, city streets + architecture
3. Golden Gardens
If you’re dreaming about engagement photos near the water without leaving Seattle, Golden Gardens gives you that laid-back beach feeling with beautiful views across Puget Sound.
On a clear evening, the sunsets here can be incredible.
Walk along the shoreline. Kick your shoes off. Bring a blanket. Run through the sand. Or just spend the evening exploring together.
Golden Gardens works especially well for couples who want their photos to feel casual, playful and less posed.
Summer evenings can get busy, so I usually recommend choosing a weekday when possible. It gives us a little more breathing room and makes it easier to find quieter areas along the beach.
Best for: Beach-loving couples
Vibe: Relaxed, playful, romantic
Best time: Sunset
Looks like: Beach, water, driftwood + mountain views
4. Washington Park Arboretum
If greenery is at the top of your engagement photo wish list, Washington Park Arboretum is one of the best options in Seattle.
The landscape changes dramatically throughout the year, which means engagement photos here can look completely different depending on when you visit.
Spring brings blossoms and fresh greenery. Summer is lush and full. Fall completely transforms the landscape with warmer colors.
It’s also a great option if you want nature without your engagement session feeling overly adventurous. We can walk, talk and explore without needing hiking boots or committing to a trek into the mountains.
Best for: Romantic, nature-focused sessions
Vibe: Lush, intimate, soft
Best time: Morning or evening
Looks like: Trees, gardens, pathways + seasonal color
5. Gas Works Park
Want the Seattle skyline without standing at a traditional overlook?
Gas Works Park is one of the most recognizable Seattle engagement photo locations, with Lake Union and the city skyline in the background.
The industrial structures also give us something completely different to work with. Depending on how we photograph the session, Gas Works can feel playful and casual or a little more edgy and editorial.
Stay through sunset and into blue hour and you’ll start seeing the city lights come on across the water.
It’s a great choice when you want your engagement gallery to actually feel like Seattle.
Best for: Couples who want skyline views
Vibe: Urban, playful, slightly edgy
Best time: Sunset into blue hour
Looks like: Skyline, Lake Union, open grass + industrial elements
6. Kerry Park + Queen Anne
There is a reason this view is famous.
If having the Seattle skyline and Space Needle in your engagement photos is important to you, Kerry Park gives you one of the most iconic views in the city. On a clear day, Mount Rainier can even make an appearance behind the skyline.
But I wouldn’t spend your entire engagement session standing at the overlook.
Instead, we can use Kerry Park as one stop and spend the rest of the session wandering around Queen Anne. That gives you the iconic Seattle photo without creating an entire gallery that looks exactly the same.
This is also a great location to pair with a second outfit if you want a little more variety.
Best for: Couples wanting classic Seattle
Vibe: Iconic, city-focused, romantic
Best time: Sunset or blue hour
Looks like: Space Needle, skyline + Mount Rainier on clear days
7. Alki Beach
Alki gives you a completely different perspective of Seattle.
Instead of photographing from inside the city, we can use the waterfront with views across Elliott Bay. There are plenty of places to wander, and the entire area has a relaxed date-night feeling.
This is another location where I love making the session into an experience instead of simply showing up, taking photos and leaving.
Walk along the beach. Grab something to eat. Hang out by the water. Stay until the city lights come on.
Your engagement session should feel like something you actually enjoyed doing together.
Best for: Casual engagement sessions and date-night photos
Vibe: Coastal, relaxed, playful
Best time: Evening through blue hour
Looks like: Beach, Elliott Bay, skyline + waterfront
8. Downtown Seattle
Of all the Seattle engagement photo locations on this list, downtown gives us the most freedom to create something completely different from a traditional outdoor engagement session.
We don’t even necessarily need one specific destination.
Crosswalks, parking garages, storefronts, street lights, architecture, coffee shops and random corners we find while wandering can become the backdrop.
Put on something you feel amazing in and let’s go explore the city.
And if it rains?
Even better.
Seattle streets, reflections, umbrellas and flash photography can turn bad weather into part of the entire vibe rather than something we have to work around.
This is one of my favorite options for couples who don’t necessarily connect with the outdoorsy engagement-session look or simply want something that feels a little more cinematic.
Best for: Editorial and nontraditional engagement photos
Vibe: Cinematic, edgy, intimate
Best time: Late afternoon, blue hour or after dark
Looks like: City streets, architecture, movement, flash + Seattle nightlife
How to Choose Between Seattle Engagement Photo Locations
The best engagement photo location isn’t necessarily the prettiest one you’ve seen on Instagram.
It should feel like you.
If you’re happiest outside with your shoes off and your feet in the sand, let’s go to the beach.
If you’d rather get dressed up, grab cocktails and run around downtown Seattle, let’s do that instead.
If you’ve spent your relationship hiking and exploring Washington together, somewhere surrounded by trees and open space probably makes more sense.
Your engagement session is also a chance to do something completely different from your wedding day.

Best Time of Year for Engagement Photos in Seattle
There really isn’t one perfect season for engagement photos in Seattle.
Spring brings cherry blossoms, flowers and fresh greenery.
Summer gives us long evenings, warmer weather and those ridiculously late Pacific Northwest sunsets.
Fall brings warmer tones, changing leaves and moodier weather.
Winter can be perfect for downtown sessions, cozy date-night photos and embracing Seattle’s rain instead of trying to avoid it.
For outdoor locations, I generally recommend scheduling around sunrise or sunset rather than the middle of the day. The softer light tends to photograph beautifully and gives us more room to play with movement and atmosphere.
And don’t panic if the forecast says clouds.
Some of my favorite sessions happen underneath Seattle’s grey skies.

Sometimes.
Seattle Parks and Recreation has specific requirements for professional photography on park property, so it’s something worth checking while planning your engagement session.
Permit requirements and location rules can change. I always recommend checking the current information for the specific park you’re considering rather than relying on an old blog post or something you found on social media.
