Discovery Park Engagement Session | Seattle Engagement Photographer

Why Discovery Park is the Perfect Seattle Engagement Location

As Seattle’s largest park, Discovery Park offers over 500 acres of meadows, forest trails, bluff views, and shoreline. It’s a location that feels like multiple destinations in one, making it the ultimate backdrop for couples who want both variety and natural beauty.

From the windswept cliffs overlooking Puget Sound to the West Point Lighthouse and hidden woodland paths, every corner of the park tells a different story. Choosing a Discovery Park engagement session means you’ll have an album full of scenery that feels adventurous, intimate, and completely Pacific Northwest.

P & T’s Discovery Park Engagement Session

P & T wanted their engagement photos to reflect their connection to nature and the city they love. We began in the forest, where dappled light filtered through tall evergreens as they laughed and walked hand in hand. Their ease with one another made every frame effortless.

From there, we wandered into the open meadows, where the tall grass glowed gold in the evening sun. The landscape gave their photos a cinematic feel — wide open skies, soft movement, and playful energy.

To close the session, we hiked toward the water. At the shoreline, they kicked off their shoes, let the waves lap at their feet, and embraced against the pastel sunset. It was the perfect finale to a day full of love, laughter, and adventure.

Why Couples Love Discovery Park

  • Diverse backdrops: Forests, meadows, cliffs, and shoreline — all in one session.
  • Golden hour glow: The bluffs and meadows catch evening light beautifully.
  • Iconic features: The West Point Lighthouse adds a touch of classic Seattle charm.
  • Secluded feel: Even though it’s popular, the park has quiet corners for intimate moments.

Tips for Planning a Discovery Park Engagement Session

  1. Arrive early: The park is huge — give yourself extra time to explore.
  2. Wear layers: Weather can shift quickly near the water.
  3. Shoes matter: Trails can be uneven, so bring comfy walking shoes (swap for dressier ones later).
  4. Timing is key: Sunset creates the best light, especially at the beach and on the bluffs.
  5. Permits: Check Seattle Parks guidelines if you’re planning elaborate setups.

Capturing Your Discovery Park Story

When photographing a Discovery Park engagement session, I focus on movement and connection. I encourage couples to walk, laugh, explore, and simply be themselves — because those in-between moments often make the most powerful images.

From sweeping wide shots of the landscape to intimate close-ups of hands and laughter, I aim to create a gallery that feels as natural as the environment itself.
