Seattle Rooftop Wedding | Seattle Wedding Photographer

These two made the rules—and then broke them.

Nikki & Jake knew from the start that they didn’t want a traditional wedding. As a Seattle wedding photographer, I’ve seen a lot of beautiful celebrations, but this one stood out for how personal it was.

There wasn’t a walk down the aisle. There wasn’t a rigid timeline. And there definitely wasn’t any pressure to stick to expectations.

Instead, the day was about connection, culture, and joy—a celebration that felt completely like them.

A Laid-Back Start in the Heart of Seattle

The morning kicked off with intention. N & J gathered their favorite people at a local Seattle restaurant for a relaxed, laughter-filled brunch. Toasts, card games, and conversation replaced the usual flurry of getting-ready chaos.

This kind of intimate, calm energy is exactly what I love to document as a Seattle wedding photographer. The moments may not be traditional, but they’re the ones that stick with you.

Ghanaian Tradition Meets Rooftop Views

After brunch, we headed to a friend’s rooftop space in the city, where the celebration shifted gears into a vibrant Ghanaian wedding ceremony. Surrounded by friends and family, they honored Nikki’s heritage with music, tradition, and powerful cultural symbolism.

The colorful outfits, emotional exchanges, and rhythmic energy brought the rooftop to life—all while the Seattle skyline served as a quiet but stunning backdrop.

Once we captured family portraits in their traditional attire, Nikki stepped away to change—and came back glowing in a soft blue dress that made everyone pause. It was elegant, unexpected, and completely her.

A Western Ceremony Full of Heart

Next came the Western ceremony—simple, heartfelt, and stripped of unnecessary extras. It took place right there on the rooftop, with just their closest people and the kind of vows that leave an impact.

This shift from bold celebration to quiet intimacy created a beautiful balance in the day’s story.

Wrapping the Day With Real, Unposed Moments

We wrapped up the afternoon with relaxed couple portraits, a quick cake moment, and a few spontaneous group photos that perfectly captured the spirit of the day.

These final images weren’t planned. They weren’t posed. But they were full of the kind of joy you can’t fake.

Capturing What’s Real

If you’re planning a wedding in Seattle that doesn’t follow the traditional mold, I see you. Whether it’s a rooftop elopement, a cultural fusion ceremony, or a celebration that breaks the “rules,” I’d love to help you tell that story.

As a Seattle wedding photographer, I’m drawn to real, intentional moments—not perfect ones. Your day doesn’t have to follow a formula. It just has to feel like you.

Let’s create something unforgettable.
