If you’re a big Star Wars fan, you might already recognize Villa de Balbianello from its depiction in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones where Anakin and Padme fatefully tied the knot. That amazing stone terrace overlooking the water is where the movie wrapped. Today, couples from all over head to Villa del Balbianello for a dreamy wedding day with stunning views. But, maybe a little less of the ‘star-crossed lovers’ thing that Padme & Anakin had going on. The major bonus of getting married at the villa is that you and your guests can arrive by boat. If that’s not a true Lake Como experience, I don’t know what is.
Planning an Elopement at Villa del Balbianello
If what you really want out of a Villa del Balbianello wedding is more of an elopement ceremony, I highly recommend planning your wedding on a weekday! The villa offers amazing rates for weekday elopements or weddings that include 50 or fewer guests. Typically, the villa is closed to the public on Mondays and Wednesdays, which would make it available for your wedding. However, the villa changes their schedule each season so it’s important to check their schedule in advance.
Locations & Capacity for a Villa del Balbianello Wedding
The Durini Lodge
For a partially covered outdoor wedding ceremony, you can tie the knot at Villa del Balbianello’s Durini Lodge overlooking Lake Como.
Total Capacity | up to 60 guests seated, up to 80-100 guests in total
Terrace On The Lake
For an outdoor wedding ceremony at Villa del Balbianello, you can host your vows at the Terrace on the Lake. This space is close to the water with a a stone balustrade surrounding the terrace.
Total Capacity | Wedding receptions at the terrace can accommodate up to 130 seated guests.
Segre Lodge
An indoor space with arched windows and views of Lake Como, Serger Lodge is a fabulous space for an enchanting wedding reception dinner.
Total Capacity | A dinner reception at the Segre Lodge can host up to 75 guests. To accommodate additional guests, the combined indoor/outdoor space can seat up to 100 guests.
Camphor Terrace
An outdoor dining space for your wedding reception, the Camphor Terrace is an intimate venue where you can dine and dance under the stars.
Total Capacity | A buffet dinner can be held at the Camphor Terrace for up to 100 guests.
Overnight Accommodations
Unfortunately, Villa del Balbianello does not offer overnight accommodations. However, they do recommend that couples and their guests stay at the nearby Grand Hotel Tremezzo. The Hotel Tremezzo is a luxury hotel with guest room terraces overlooking the water. It is a vibrant hotel in Lake Como with endless views. The onsite amenities include a spa, restaurants, bars, and optional boat tours of the lake. And yes, you can get from Grand Hotel Tremezzo to your Villa del Balbianello wedding by boat!
Villa Del Balbianello Wedding Photos
The villa is a stunning backdrop for wedding photos. With its iconic Italian gardens lined with sycamores, statues, and hidden pathways, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped off the edge of the earth. The most amazing thing about a photography experience at Villa del Balbianello is that you don’t actually have to host your wedding at the villa in order to capture photos on their grounds. Villa Del Balbianello offers couples getting married in Lake Como a ‘photography only’ experience. This means you and your photographer can access the grounds (with a reservation in place, of course) to capture dreamy wedding photos.
