Want to plan an epic ‘throw caution to the wind’ Vegas elopement wedding? Here’s what you need to know to have an amazing experience, while saying I do to your favorite person.
How Can We Apply For A Marriage License In Vegas?
Although Vegas is the wedding capital of the world, you still need a marriage license to make it official. However, what makes Vegas so unique is that, unlike other locations in the US, there is no waiting period. You can apply for your marriage license on the same day as your wedding. There are two easy ways to apply for your marriage license for a Vegas elopement. The first is through the Clark County online portal at this link. The second way is to apply in person at the Clark County Marriage License Bureau (no appointment required). The total cost of applying is $102 and there is a convenience fee added if you are paying by credit or debit. In addition to the fee, you’ll both need to provide the marriage bureau with valid forms of ID. You can find the complete list of acceptable forms of identification, right here.
Do we Need a Witness for Our Vegas Elopement Wedding?
Technically, yes. The state of Nevada requires a witness at your wedding. Your witness will need to be at least 18 years old and it cannot be your officiant. If your elopement doesn’t include a guest list, and you’re wondering what on earth you’re going to do, don’t worry. You can invite a friend or family member if you want to but there are plenty of other options. If you’re planning your elopement at a chapel in Vegas, they often offer a professional witness as part of your wedding package. Bonus, as a wedding photographer, the state of Nevada will allow me to be your official witness. It really doesn’t get much easier than that!
Do we Need a Vegas Elopement Wedding Planner?
The answer to that is, maybe? I highly recommend a Vegas elopement wedding planner if you are heading in from out of state or even out of the country. Are you inviting guests? What about planning a rad after-ceremony dinner, reception, excursion, or experience? Are you swimming in visions of inviting your guests to a post-wedding brunch celebration by the pool? If the answer to any of those questions is a solid yes, then yeah, you’ll probably need a Vegas elopement wedding planner. There are so many moving parts involved with planning a wedding, even an elopement wedding in Vegas. A skilled local wedding planner is someone who can put everything together for you so you can enjoy the fun and adventure of getting married in Vegas.
One Last Note….
If you have a specific well-known chapel already in mind for your Vegas elopement wedding, it’s probably on the strip. But, Vegas has heaps and heaps of chapels & wedding venues, outside of the strip. You’ll find plenty of quirky, fun, badass venues & chapels in downtown Vegas, the desert, and beyond! For real, downtown Vegas has it going on when it comes to amazing places to get married. Minus all the foot traffic happening on the strip. While you’re here, if you need help with the ins & outs of hiring a photographer, I put together a whole guide to Vegas elopement photography, right here!
